#WhyIMeditate: Calmness Through Meditation

Anxiety/depression is something I have struggled with on a daily basis and on most days I can manage through it. On other days, it cripples me to a state where even the most basic tasks can be so difficult that I cannot complete them. I’ve only coped by seeing a specialist to help me through these times and always thought that this was the way to cope. I’ve tried many other types of activities (running, video games and watching sports) to help me ease my anxiety/depression over the years and even though they were fun, they were only distractions and helped me in the short term. In reality, these were diversions and once the activity was over, I would go back to what I would feel prior to starting the activity.

I’ve always thought the more traditional/common methods to deal with anxiety/depression was to see someone to for assistance. Growing up, I thought I could shake these feelings off and learned the hard way that I could not. I have been open to trying different techniques and methods to help me deal with my emotions and stumbled upon the Simple Habit app on iOS while researching alternatives. Meditation was always something I’ve wanted to try but my perception of meditation was that the exercises are hours long and something I would need to adapt to in my everyday routine.

That is not the case with Simple Habit. Every time I feel overwhelmed, I can just open the app and take 5 minutes of out my day with the exercises. Every time I use the app, I feel I learn a bit more about my body and can apply the exercises in my daily routine.

I feel like this app is a game changer and is so accessible to anyone that would want to try it out. Simple Habit has helped me manage my anxiety/depression and I meditate to let myself know that everything will be ok.
